Carved Oval Portrait of a Gentleman with Coronet

Oval Portrait of a Genteman wearing a coronet, carved from a piece of Elm, possibly Royal but certainly Ducal and dating from the 16th century. The oval panel with simulated ribbon border with remains of a bow at the top enclosing a hatched background to the carved head and shoulders in profile. the carved head with flowing locks and beard and coronet in Romayne style.
The panel is extremly weathered and has suffered deteration from wood worm and damp and looks to have been mounted on a wall by means of large heavy wrought iron nails. Although ravished by worm, what remains appears to be in a stable and strong condition.
