Japanese Meiji Period Embroidered Four Fold Screen

Meiji Period Embroidered Four Fold Screen depicting rampaging mythical lions or Foo Dogs through undergrowth and foliage,  emboidered in silver thread silk, the lions raised like stump work, on a black silk ground, within a wave patterned paper border and simple  ebonised frame. in Japan these Komainu, Shishi or Foo dogs are sybmolic of guardianship,protection, prosperity and security. The screen as well as being free standing can be mounted flat on a wall and makes a great statement feature.
