George IV Wheelwrights Chair

George IV Wheelwright's Chair, in Elm and Sycamore, so called, because it looks like it's been made by a wheelright or coach maker due to the panelled construction and chamfering to the rails and stiles and the sweeping elegant Sycamore arms. The top back rail with rounded ends above a heavily panelled Elm back, the Elm boarded sides and chamfered post support the sweeping scrole Sycamore arms, which enclose the dish shaped Elm seat (replaced), all supported on Chamfered legs joined by chamfered H stretchers. This chair is of rare form and possibly emminates from East Anglia where dished seats were more of a tradition. tthere is evidence that there was a front and back stretcher but i believe the maker changed his mind and went for the `H stretcher instead!
